5.4.2. Starter Motor

The starter motor is installed on the flywheel housing.

When the starter key switch is turned on, the starter motor pinion flies out and engages the ring

gear of the flywheel. Then the main contact is closed, current flows, and the engine is started.

After the engine starts, the pinion automatically returns to its initial position as soon as the starter

key switch is released.

Otherwise, the starter motor may be damaged or burned out.

In case of repairing the engine, dip the

pinion of the starter and ring gear into the

new fuel, then remove the dirty or corrosion

with a brush.

After that, apply the grease on them to

protect the corrosion.

Whenever you clean the starter, always

pay attention not to occur the electric short

due to entering the water.

Starter motor always should be

protected from humidity.

Precaution : Before the maintenance

of the electric system,

be sure to detach the

battery wire (-) to avoid

the electric short.
